An ambitious, game-changing step forward in an initially vibes-based story, the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen is a masterwork in hype and emotion that qualifies the anime as one of sophisticated, artistic quality on top of just entertainment; the thematic and narrative content is fairly straightforward, but it’s done to major emotive effect; on that note, its brutal narrative events can be difficult to reconcile, especially as its dark treatment of certain characters can potentially feel over-the-top without necessity even if the emotional impact is there; additionally, it feels like plotlines that are overwhelmingly massive in scale have been set up, and it will remain to be seen how it plays out and if it can successfully; these two qualms do not take away from the overall arc; it’s a stunning piece of scale, stakes, and consequence, and combined with jaw-dropping, unprecedented action sequences (sadly which came from the suffering of incredible animators) and technical quality, this is a moment in television that should go down in modern history; there’s not many shows that can deliver such consistent hype and awe, but this is one of them, and it must not be missed whether you’re typically into anime or not.
